Ogun Lawmakers Visit CNG Explosion Site, Seek Compensation for Victims

Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Environment have conducted an on-the-spot assessment visit to the site of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) explosion, calling on the State and Federal Government to ensure compensation to residents affected by the accident.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Lawal Samsideen, in company of other lawmakers, sympathized with the victims of the incidents with a call on the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning to embark on sensitization of residents who were expected to maintain standard setback to avoid any future occurrence.

Lawal, who commended the prompt response of first responders, sought the need for Government formulate policy framework to regulate the movements of vehicles conveying the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) product across the State.

Also speaking, Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju and Tella Babatunde, assured of the people that the State Assembly was ready to partner with the State Government on safety standards and measures, imploring heavy duty trucks, especially those conveying gas and petroleum products to ensure strict compliance with environmental and road safety regulations to avert road crashes that could result into avoidable loss of lives and property.

In another development, the House of Assembly has invited the Permanent Secretary in the State Teaching Service Commission and the Board Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board to appear for an engagement with the State lawmakers on Tuesday, 7th May, 2024 at the Assembly Complex by 10:00am.
