Subversion of Democracy in Kosofe: APC Must Address Moyo Ogunlewe and Yinka Omotaje’s Antics Immediately

The Kosofe political landscape is currently under threat from internal subterfuge and undemocratic practices orchestrated by certain individuals whose actions blatantly undermine the principles of fairness, transparency, and due process which the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds dear. It is with great concern and a deep sense of responsibility to our party and community that we bring to public attention the deliberate obstruction of the candidacies of Hon. Olayinka Rabiu (popularly known as Whytee) for Kosofe Local Government Chairman and Prince Bashir Balogun for Ward G Councillor in the forthcoming 2025 LG/LCDA elections.

The APC Ward G (Ogudu) Chairman, Mr. Yinka Omotaje, has inexplicably disappeared and has since refused to perform his statutory role of signing the nomination forms for both aspirants, effectively jeopardizing their legitimate bid to contest the elections under the APC platform. This conduct is not only a violation of internal party processes but also a betrayal of the democratic values our party upholds. The silence and absence of Mr. Omotaje at such a crucial time raise serious questions about the integrity of the nomination process.

Credible reports reaching us have revealed that Mr. Omotaje's disappearance is not coincidental but rather the result of direct interference and influence from the incumbent Kosofe Local Government Chairman, Mr. Moyo Ogunlewe. As the reports indicate, Mr. Ogunlewe has been identified as the mastermind behind this act, instructing Mr. Omotaje to evade his responsibilities to thwart the candidacies of Hon. Olayinka Rabiu (Whytee) and Prince Bashir Balogun, who represent a new wave of credible and people-oriented leadership.

We are deeply disappointed that Mr. Ogunlewe, a supposed leader within the APC, would resort to such disgraceful tactics in an attempt to manipulate the democratic process and impose his will on the people of Kosofe. This abuse of office and political influence is unbecoming of any leader and sets a dangerous precedent for party politics in Lagos State and beyond. It is imperative to state clearly that no individual, regardless of position, should wield such power to suppress the democratic rights of others within our party.

We hereby call on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress at the state level, the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), party elders, and all concerned stakeholders within Kosofe Local Government to urgently intervene and restore sanity to this situation. The nomination process must be free from coercion and should reflect the true will of the people. Any attempt to silence or obstruct aspirants based on personal or political interests must be condemned and reversed.

The aspirations of Hon. Olayinka Rabiu (Whytee) and Prince Bashir Balogun are rooted in service, capacity, and grassroots connection. Denying them their right to contest through underhanded means is not only unjust but also robs the people of Ward G and Kosofe at large of competent representation. We must ensure that internal democracy prevails in all party processes to sustain the confidence of our members and the general public.

In conclusion, we demand that immediate action be taken to locate and compel Mr. Yinka Omotaje to carry out his official duties without further delay, and that all acts of intimidation and manipulation by Mr. Moyo Ogunlewe be thoroughly investigated and addressed by the party hierarchy. The APC must rise above this and remain a symbol of fairness and progress for all.
