Audit Reports: Ogun Assembly Committee Commends Gov Abiodun for Non-Interference

The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption led by Hon. Damilare Bello today winds down its consideration of the Audit reports on Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government in the State with a commendation to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for not giving free hands to the legislative arm to perform its responsibilities.

The Committee Chairman also lauded some of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government on their improvements in the areas of maintenance and regular update of fixed asset register, coding of assets, keeping of inventory register and store records and appreciable improvement in revenue generation.

According to him, having concluded the first phase of the exercise today, the Committee would be embarking on physical verification of projects done by some MDAs during the year under review and also coduct status review of a few Agencies.

"Just like I said in my opening remarks at the commencement of the exercise some months ago, that we were not embarking on the assignment to witch-hunt, destroy denigrate or disparage anybody or Government, rather the exercise was conducted with open mind and concious of our determination to contribute our quota in ensuring that due process and procedures are strictly followed in the government business in order to block revenue leakages and create adequate value for money and avoid wastage", Bello stated.

He said in the course of the exercise, the Committee had been able to observe certain procedural infractions in the records of some of the MDAs that appeared before the Committee, which needed to be addressed.

He also disclosed that next phase of the Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption Committee sitting would be to consider the reports of the Auditor General on the activities of the 20 Local Government Councils for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively, which would begin soon, while appreciating the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, for providing the needed platform and conducive atmosphere in carrying out the exercise.
