As we continue to chronicle the performances of the local branches of NYCN in Lagos East, you will recall that in the first part, we reported how Ikorodu West, Bariga, and Epe stand tall among their peers in the performance index. In Part III, we will also inform you about the impactful projects of Agboyi-Ketu, Ikosi Isheri, Lekki, and others.
In this episode, we beam the searchlight on Imota LCDA, which has distributed about 120 school uniforms, 52 bags, 3,000 notebooks, and 22 pairs of sandals, including socks, pens, and pencils, as part of its back-to-school project. The branch organized a Free Digital Training Program for MSMEs on July 27, 2024, and struck a partnership deal with Inside Success Nigeria to help build the capacity of Imota youth on September 7, 2024. The branch has consistently held its management meetings and paid visits to more than 25 community-based organizations affiliated with it to inspire them to make meaningful impacts in their respective areas.
Igbogbo/Baiyeku is promoting a culture of cleanliness and environmental sustainability. To commemorate World Cleanup Day, it cleaned up major communities surrounding the Oba Adegboruwa Palace in partnership with Green Janitors, an NGO committed to sustainability. It also commemorated World Skills Day on July 14, 2024, where more than 30 young people were skillfully empowered. Additionally, the branch organized a dialogue session to address violent protests.
The Ibeju-Lekki branch is promoting a love for mathematics among students. It held a mathematics game on July 31, 2024, to commemorate International Mathematics Day. Like its sister branch, Lekki, both local branches are committed to building a future of critical thinkers and innovators. The branch is also promoting entrepreneurship and empowering young people. To this end, it organized a skill acquisition program, which includes makeup training, graphic design, and more, to commemorate World Skills Day. It has prioritized feedback, youth-oriented brainstorming, and solutions through its recurrent management meetings and symposium held to commemorate International Youth Day.
In the last hundred days, Ikosi-Ejirin promoted good health and peace through its sensitization program on cholera outbreaks at Mowowale Market Square and Itokin Market on August 3, 2024, and its advocacy press conference against violent protests held on August 1, 2024. The branch also organized a two-day mobile graphics design and video editing training for all secondary students in Ikosi Ejirin on August 17, 2024.
The Eredo branch is committed to digital literacy and has chosen to commemorate International Youth Day with a sensitization program in September 2024. It held a sensitization program on skill acquisition in partnership with LAYOSA in August 2024 and addressed drug abuse through its campaign program against drug abuse held in June 2024. Additionally, it organized a summer class for secondary school students in August 2024.
